Frequently asked questions
The activity of TVDE operator is carried out in Portuguese territory by legal persons who carry out individual paid passenger transport, under the terms and conditions set out in this law.
Have held a driving license for more than three years for category B with an endorsement in group 2;
Hold a certificate for a road training course for drivers;
Be considered suitable, under the terms of Law no. 45/2018 of August 10, 2018

Yes, but within 60 days of taking up residence in Portugal you must notify the IMT office in the area of your new residence of the fact, in order to register, Driving Licenses issued by the European Union or the European Economic Area (Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein) (imt-ip.pt).
You must exchange your foreign driving license for a national driving license within 90 days of taking up residence in Portugal.
Thus, you can take the training with a valid foreign driving license recognized in Portugal, however, it is a requirement for issuing the TVDE title that group 2 be registered on the driving license, which requires the respective exchange to be made before applying for the TVDE title.

The TVDE driver certificate is valid for 5 years, renewable for equal periods, provided that the driver proves the suitability requirement and attends an 8-hour refresher course on the subjects identified in Law 45/2018 of August 10, 2018.
Certificates that are not renewed before their expiry date expire for all legal purposes.
The expiry of the certificate makes it impossible for the holder to renew it.
The holder of an expired CMTVDE who wishes to continue or return to the activity of TVDE driver must successfully attend an initial training course (50 hours) in order to be issued with a new certificate.
The training course is given by a driving school or legally qualified training entity.

The workload of the training is provided for in Ordinance No. 293/2018 of October 31 and consists of 50 hours of training.
No. You can only drive TVDE vehicles after you have been licensed for category B for 3 years and are fit for group II.
